Westenhanger railway station
Westenhanger railway station serves Westenhanger in Kent, England. The station is on the South Eastern Main Line south east of London Charing Cross. All trains serving Westenhanger are operated by Southeastern. It serves Folkestone Racecourse and the village of Stanford.
British Rail proposed the closure of the station as from 3 February 1969. Objections were made which were considered by a Transport Users' Consultative Committee, after which the Minister of Transport decided against closure.〔
The station is un-manned; a PERTIS 'permit to travel' machine is located on the 'up' platform. The one-time station building, on the 'up' side, was restored in March 2009.
==Westenhanger (Folkestone) Racecourse station==
There was a station about 250 metres west of Westenhanger station which was built to serve the adjacent Folkestone Racecourse. It was only used on race days. It closed in the 1960s. As at January 2012 there are substantial remains of the two platforms. High Speed 1 runs parallel to the station.〔Private and Untimetabled Railway stations by G. Croughton〕
